GO LOCAL!!!!

Strathmore, Langdon, Chestermere and the surrounding area's and communities are unlike anywhere in the world. We are completely unique. The people who live in these areas are proud to say they live in a small town that has everything they need or is only a short drive away from. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you help to maintain our community. The Newsy Neighbour is published thanks to the businesses in your community. The goals of our magazine are to encourage, educate and create awareness about the benefits of buying local, encouraging the support of locally owned businesses, and to increase support for local businesses owners in our community!

One-of-a-kind businesses are a distinctive character in our communities. Research shows that entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character. Here is why consumers should support their local, one-of-a-kind businesses:

-  Buying local keeps dollars in our economy. Of every $1 spent at a local business $.45 is reinvested locally. For every $1 spent at non-local businesses only $.15 is reinvested locally.

- It makes us unique. Homegrown businesses are a part of what makes our communities a special place to live.

-  It creates local jobs. Local businesses are the best at creating higher-paying jobs for our neighbours.

- It helps our environment. Buying locally saves transportation fuel. Plus, you get products that you know are safe and well-made, because our neighbours stand behind them.

-  It nurtures our community. Studies show that local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.

-  It supports local farms and helps preserve the local landscape.

The goal of The Newsy Neighbour is to support local business owners in their stewardship of our community, and in turn, encourage our community to support these businesses. We would not exist without the support of all the wonderful local businesses, and neither would the wonderful communities you live in. So show your thanks by supporting them and also by telling them where you heard about them!

I just wanted to send a note because I have had most of my customers come in and tell me they found out about me through the Newsy Neighbour.  It has been a great advertising tool and I appreciate being able to afford to advertise while I'm just starting up.
Diane

Hi Newsy ladies:
This is just a thanks to Kathryn in regards to the I Am A ........ cookbook.  Just thought she’d like to know that the Gleichen and District Community Associationused her pasta/white wine recipe for our Wine and Dine evening on Feb. 2nd.  We made enough for 80 people. I told our audience where we got the recipe from.  You just might get some more sales for the book. (We’d have loved to make it with the asparagus as was suggested- but have you seen the price of that stuff right now?  It’s good with fresh green beans too.)  Thanks again.

Hola Aleesha, Kathryn and Denise,

I just wanted to let you know how awesome you are for putting together The Newsy Neighbour. Smile

Let me explain........
I am originally a Cape Bretoner, who ended up in Ottawa, just retired in Sep 2011 - made the plunge and moved to a Strathmore acreage (met this really great guy...so hopefully this latest edition will come in handy - wink, wink!). So, as you can imagine, lots is happening with my life and many exciting and wonder times are in store for me.
But moving and living out West can be quite a culture shock, so I was thrilled to discover the Newsy Neighbour. Why?
It has helped me feel connected to my new home, and to my new community. I have used The Newsy Neighbour to find a fantastic' hair dresser, a 'yummy' bakery, my 'always knowing' car mechanic and many other local businesses - but most importantly, these connections have also resulted in new friendships. So at least from me - thanks Newsy Neighbour for being there!
I also love the great humour and the stories, so keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
New to Strathmore,
Edie Tomaso

Dear Newsy Neighbour,
Here is something I had meant to send you ages ago... better late then never!
Why do we love advertising in Newsy Neighbour? Because we have found this to be incredibly effective advertising. We often will ask new customers how they found out about us, and their response is through the ad in your magazine.
The Newsy Neighbour magazine is such a fun publication, that I believe people hang onto this magazine and read it when they get a chance. Then, upon seeing our ad and will call us late into the month.
We have found that this has been one of the best places to advertise because the rates to advertise are so reasonable and the distribution is so high.
As an advertiser, and a reader, we say: keep up the great publication!

Ray and Sharon VandeBurgt ~ Sod Off Landscaping

"We love the Newsy Neighbour. You girls are so easy to deal with and we appreciate your efforts in helping us advertise our year-round basketball, badminton, and volleyball programs, as well as our annual summer camps. We have been offering sports programs for children in this community for 18 years and have really noticed how important advertising has become, as there are so many more options out there for youth. Your ads in the Newsy Neighbour magazine have helped keep our programs popular and have also reached many home-schooling families who are now using our sports programs to fulfill the Phys. Ed. component of their curriculums."

Pat and Debbie Fule ~ JETS ATHLETICS

I think you know by now that the Gleichen and District Community Association think this magazine is "the best". You have given our organization the publicity it has needed for our events over the past few years. You have always tried to "pretty" up our ads in such as way that makes them eye-appealing and get people to notice them. Our thanks.

~ Doris

Yes we are still receiving/reading the newsy neighbour. I absolutely LOVE IT!, especially the jokes! Some have us laughing until we have tears in our eyes. It really makes our day! KEEP UP THE EXCELLENT WORK!!! ~ Bernie

I could write for pages and never be able to fully express the gratitude I feel towards the Newsy Neighbour. I truly believe that my business is as successful as it is because of not only the Newsy Neighbour but the amazing ladies that operate it.  From day one they have supported not only my business but have believed in me as well. I am honored to call them friends.

The advertising alone speaks for itself. I joke that I need to hire a receptionist for the week following the Newsy Neighbour's latest issue. My phone rings off the hook. It is absolutely amazing; I look forward to it each month and have never been disappointed.

In the first year of my business I tried out many forms of advertising and utilized many different publications. The Newsy Neighbour is one of the few that made the cut for year two.
